North Macedonia and Frontex sign Memorandum of Understanding

Skopje, 26 November 2025 (MIA) – A high-level delegation of the Ministry of Interior, comprising Risto Stavrevski, Chief of the Minister’s Cabinet, and Vladimir Velkovski, State Adviser in the Minister’s Cabinet on Wednesday represented Minister Panche Toshkovski at the official signing ceremony held at Frontex main office in Warsaw, Poland.

The event marked the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding between Macedonia and Frontex (the European Border and Coast Guard Agency) concerning complaint mechanisms related to activities implemented by the Agency in the Republic of North Macedonia under the EU-North Macedonia Agreement on operational engagements.

The Memorandum of Understanding was also signed by the other partners, Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia.

With the signing of this Memorandum, the Ministry of Interior stated, the parties confirm their goodwill to further deepen the established cooperation between the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia and Frontex.

“The purpose and scope of this Memorandum of Understanding is to ensure cooperation between the two existing complaint mechanisms, within their respective competences, for the exchange of information related to allegations of fundamental rights violations during all Frontex operational activities on the territory of Macedonia,” reads the press release.

The event also included a meeting of the heads of border police, attended by representatives of the Ministry of Interior’s Department for Border Affairs and Migration, where operational responses to current security challenges at the borders were discussed. As the Ministry of Interior reported, the participants confirmed their dedication to further enhancing cooperation in border management, underscoring the significance of joint responsibility in ensuring secure and efficiently managed borders.
