Nikoloski: Macedonian Post must grow not deteriorate

Skopje, 24 December 2025 (MIA) - Let's be fair and say it is easy to take the profitable portion of the market, while leaving the social responsibility aspect to Macedonian Post, namely delivering a letter when no one else wants to. We will discuss this in the coming period because the situation cannot remain as it is - either the burden is shared by all or other decisions will be made. My intention is to see Macedonian Post grow, not deteriorate, said Deputy PM and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski on Wednesday.

"Macedonia has continually followed the European directives on regulation of the market of postal services, which sometimes gives us headaches, considering we are a government that wants to protect state capital and push state companies forward, unlike other governments that were prepared to sell them. We would like to see the Macedonian Post grow and prosper. My intention is to see the Macedonian Post grow, not deteriorate. The EU Growth Plan requires improvement of services by reducing costs by 15 percent and increasing profitability by 15 percent, which is impossible with the current setup. That is why we need legislative changes," Minister Nikoloski told a public meeting of the Postal Agency.

He said Macedonian Post would get a donation of 100 vehicles from the Government, of which 90 are small vans and 10 large vans, for the purpose of improving working conditions.

"We are also working on additional support in the fields of software, sorting and delivery of best services on the market. Cooperation with the Postal Agency is key in this regard," said Nikoloski.

The Transport Minister also said traditional trade is gradually becoming obsolete, with e-trade taking center stage.

"We will see a lot of shops closing in the coming period, as this is the global trend. We will have to make sure that jobs lost in traditional trade are compensated through the opening of new posts and increased operating volume of the existing entities," said Nikoloski.

The Macedonian postal market currently includes 29 legal entities, of which 28 are private and one - Macedonian Post - is state-owned.
