Deputy PM Nikoloski says Government took measures immediately after crisis signals, March inflation at only 0.7 percent

Skopje, 9 April 2026 (MIA) - We lowered the VAT for fuels at the largest rate in the region and then intervened with the excise tax. The inflation in March, compared to the same month in 2025, is only 0.7 percent, says Deputy PM and Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski.

Deputy PM Nikolsoki told Kanal 5 that the Government took measures immediately after the signals of a crisis emerged, while noting there have been speculative price hikes.

"This also included food products and eggs, and that is why we have charged the Ministry of Economy and Labor and the state labor and market inspectorates to make a price comparison, because Easter will not be the end of this. The Government will discuss the report next Tuesday and undertake measures accordingly," says Nikoloski.

According to him, the measures that might be taken would penalise those who abuse the current situation, adding that the measures related to diesel and gasoline fuels have resulted in the country having the lowest prices in the region.
