Budapest, 20 November 2025 (MIA) – The Macedonian National Theater performed the award-winning play “No Man’s Land” at the Budapest Nemzeti Színház to great acclaim Wednesday evening as part of a newly established cooperation between the two theaters, the MNT said in a press release.

The play received several minutes of thunderous applause from the Hungarian audience, the release said.

The performance was followed by a talkback with the actors on topics raised by the play, including humanity, the absurdity of war and the traumas it leaves behind.

According to the cooperation agreement signed by MNT director Nikola Kimovski and the Budapest national theater's director Attila Vidnyánszky, the Hungarian theater will stage a play of its own in Skopje in the spring.

"This cooperation may be a small step for theater, but a big one for European art," Kimovski is quoted as saying in the release.

The Macedonian production of "No Man's Land" was directed by Aleksandar Morfov based on the film by Bosnian director and screenwriter Danis Tanović. The cast consists of Sashko Kocev, Toni Mihajlovski, Aleksandar Mihajlovski and some 20 other actors from the MNT.

According to Kocev, the actors "felt like a national team defending the colors of Macedonia,” and Mihajlovski described the play as “a beautiful and sad work about the horrors of war.”

"No Man's Land" premiered at Acting Europe: Theater Without Borders festival in Kyustendil, Bulgaria. MNT has previously staged plays at the Budapest national theater in 2015 and 2017. mr/
