French Institute organizes screening of 'Beating Hearts'

Skopje, 3 December 2025 (MIA) — The Cineplexx movie theater will screen "Beating Hearts" ("L'amour ouf", 2024) by Gilles Lellouche as part of a gala film evening organized by the French Institute in Skopje.

According to organizers, French Institute director and French Embassy counselor for culture and cooperation Grégoire Giessler will open the event together with Macedonian filmmaker Marija Apchevska.

"Beating Hearts" has been described as a cinematic rollercoaster of enduring passion, destiny and the sacrifices made for love.

Starring Adèle Exarchopoulos, François Civil, Malik Frikah and Mallory Wanecque, the film is set in Northern France. It follows the intense and improbable, decades-spanning love story between local rebellious teenager Clotaire and his fearless and witty schoolmate Jackie.

After many years apart due to Clotaire's becoming involved in gang violence and crime, the star-crossed lovers now leading profoundly different lives discover that every path they’ve taken leads them back together.

The film was screened at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival as part of its official selection. It received 12 César Awards 2025 nominations including Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Most Promising Actress, Most Promising Actor, Best Original Music, Best Editing and Best Sound. It was also a major box office success in France.

A review in Le Figaro described the movie as "an epic romance of unparalleled tenderness, blending social drama, heist film, melodrama, romantic comedy and musical. Unmissable." mr/
