Museum of Skopje mounts new Rodoljub Anastasov exhibit

Skopje, 2 December 2025 (MIA) — The Museum of the City of Skopje will place on display Tuesday evening in its Justina and Rodoljub Anastasov Gallery a selection of works by Rodoljub Anastasov as part of its newly curated year-long exhibition dedicated to the Macedonian artist.

Until December 2026, on display will be 30 artworks including ink on paper drawings from the late 1950s done in the art informel style, organizers said.

The art show was curated from the Justina and Rodoljub Anastasov collection of some 400 works spanning the artist's entire career, from 1957 to 2010, which he donated to the museum.

"Amid the severity of form and melancholy, he explores the space in and around a person, the external — real and physical — and the internal — imaginary and metaphysical," organizers said, adding that in the new art show, "scenes depicting bustling crowds of people where you can almost hear the street noise" were juxtaposed with "silent, lonely, wide spaces where one is isolated and alone as if in a desert."

"Sometimes the author puts himself in the role of a silent and distant observer of the world around him," they noted.

"Evocatively and poetically, Anastasov has painted the drama, the pace of life and the uncertainty of the times we live in, always shining a ray of hope that the world and humanity can and must become better," organizers said. mr/
