Skopje, 25 November 2025 (MIA) — Showcasing hand-printed fabrics blending traditional knowledge with contemporary techniques, an exhibition of Indigenous textile art from Australia's Bábbarra Women's Centre will open Tuesday at 7 pm at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
The exhibit is one in a series of events organized by the Australian Embassy in Belgrade, which is also accredited to North Macedonia, to mark 30 years of diplomatic ties between Australia and North Macedonia.
The opening will be attended by Australian Ambassador Peter Truswell, organizers said.
Initially founded as a women’s refuge in 1983, the Bábbarra Women’s Centre is now an established art center producing unique textiles to support the economic independence of Indigenous women. The studio works with lino block printing, screen printing, natural dying and works on paper.
Its textile business, Bábbarra Designs, is one of Australia’s oldest continuously operating Indigenous textile enterprises. Bábbarra Designs' textiles are in the collections of major institutions across Australia and exported worldwide. mr/
