Tel Aviv, 22 January 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Four people were injured in a knife attack on Tuesday in the centre of the Israeli coastal city of Tel Aviv, emergency services reported.

The attacker was reportedly shot by a passer-by.

The attack occurred in the city centre of Tel Aviv, a popular area with many restaurants and cafes.

The police spoke of a terrorist attack.

Initially, there was no official information about the perpetrator. The Times of Israel newspaper reported that according to his papers, he entered Israel as a tourist on Saturday and holds a permanent residence permit in the United States.

In a statement, the Palestinian militant organization Hamas called the attacker a martyr and said the attack was in response to the Israeli military operation in Jenin in the northern West Bank. The group also repeated its call for Palestinians in the West Bank to confront Israeli security forces and settlers.

The attack was the second stabbing in Tel Aviv within four days, after another person was seriously injured on Saturday before the suspected attacker was shot by an armed civilian.
