Skopje, 12 December 2025 (MIA) - The Members of Parliament are the ones who elect the chief prosecutor, they are the ones deciding what the best solution is for the position. A chief public prosecutor will be chosen through a public call in which anyone who meets the conditions according to the law and the call may apply, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski in answer to media questions Wednesday over the government’s proposal for the dismissal of Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski.
The Prime Minister said he expects the procedure for the election of a new chief prosecutor to unfold quickly.
“The proposal for the dismissal of the chief public prosecutor has already been presented, and if it hasn’t been delivered [to Parliament] yet, it will be,” Mickoski said.
Regarding the negative opinion of the Council of Public Prosecutors on the proposal to dismiss Kocevski, the Prime Minister said this is the position of that body, while the government holds a different view.
The government adopted Tuesday a proposal on the dismissal of Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski. Government Spokeswoman Marija Miteva said the proposal represented a continuation of the proceedings that were temporarily stopped due to the local elections.
Later on Tuesday, the Council of Public Prosecutors issued a negative opinion regarding the government’s proposal.
