Mickoski: Gov’t doesn’t support NLA march, but will work to ensure no negative consequences for citizens and region
- Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Wednesday the government does not support the march of veterans and supporters of the National Liberation Army (NLA) expected to be held in Skopje on Saturday, adding that a crisis HQ has been established to monitor developments related to the event. “The government, the state, and the institutions,” Mickoski stressed, “will take all measures to make sure the intent to provoke any negative reaction that might have negative consequences, not only for the citizens, but also for the region, is unsuccessful”.
Skopje, 10 December 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Wednesday the government does not support the march of veterans and supporters of the National Liberation Army (NLA) expected to be held in Skopje on Saturday, adding that a crisis HQ has been established to monitor developments related to the event. “The government, the state, and the institutions,” Mickoski stressed, “will take all measures to make sure the intent to provoke any negative reaction that might have negative consequences, not only for the citizens, but also for the region, is unsuccessful”.
Regarding the decision of Chair Mayor Izet Mexhiti, whose party is a member of the ruling coalition, to support the march, Mickoski said he believes Mexhiti is under pressure from the organizers, thinking that if he does not back the march, he will lose political points.
“The government does not support [the march] and we have no intention of supporting it, but of course we will make sure it all passes smoothly, without incidents, and without something happening that we, the citizens, don’t want to see happen. I think Mexhiti’s decision is under pressure from the organizers, thinking that if he does not support it he will lose political points, which I believe is a wrong decision,” Mickoski said.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the government would do everything to ensure the march passes smoothly.
“Our strategic partners have also been informed about this. They have all been informed about all the measures that will be taken. We will also have a crisis HQ that will monitor this 24 hours before it happens and after it happens,” Mickoski said.
The march of the NLA veterans is expected to begin at 1 PM on Saturday at the Skanderbeg Square in Skopje.
