Mickoski on ESM tender: Gov't committed to ensuring no major impacts on citizens' standard, continues subsidizing electricity for households

Skopje, 26 November 2025 (MIA) – Until the annual electricity supply tender of the Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM) ends, the price offered by the company and the Government will not be shared in public, because the decision was made at a closed session of the Government and is classified information. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stressed that the Government safeguards the standard of living of citizens and will continue to subsidize electricity for households.

"We are committed to ensuring that there are no major impacts on the standard of citizens. An implication, on the other hand, to continue with the subsidy, because the market price of electricity is currently around a hundred euros, and for the first time a public procurement is being carried out for the whole year, not just for half a year. So, at this point, I cannot say the price. But rest assured that we safeguard the standard of citizens, and we continue to subsidize electricity for all those who receive it on the regulated market, i.e. the households," said Mickoski.

ESM submitted the new electricity price to the Government, which decided at a closed session on Tuesday whether it is acceptable or not. ESM currently sells electricity to households at EUR 62 per megawatt-hour.
