Mickoski: Platform for monitoring government funded projects sends strong message of an open and accountable state

Skopje, 4 December 2025 (MIA) – We are launching an important tool for the modern functioning of the state – the new platform for monitoring government funded projects. This is more than a technical system. It is a step forward in political culture and modern governance, and a strong message that the state is committed to openness, accountable and full transparency of public funds, PM Hristijan Mickoski said Thursday at the event held at the Members of Parliament Club.

“This platform represents our clear commitment to integrity, honesty, and public oversight of all the investments we implement, without exception. For the first time in Macedonia’s history, we are establishing a system where every citizen, every municipality, every journalist, every civil society representative, and every relevant stakeholder can follow government-funded projects in real time, transparently and accurately,” Mickoski said.

“Precisely,” he stressed. “This is how a European state functions. The platform makes institutional work transparent and creates a framework of trust, where the public does not wait for answers but sees them directly,” he added.

“For us, transparency is not merely a formal duty, it is a core democratic principle, the basis of trust, stability, and responsible policies. In a society constantly exposed to false narratives and disinformation, the only answer is an open state with open data. This platform is therefore not just a technological project but a political message: we have nothing to hide, as we act honestly, transparently, and for the citizens’ benefit,” Mickoski said.

He underscored that it is particularly important that the media, as a pillar of democracy, now have a powerful tool. With just a few clicks, as he explained, they will be able to follow every project, every contract, every deadline, and every stage of implementation.
“This provides real support for investigative journalism, public accountability, and informed civic participation. No project is ever ‘somewhere out there,’ hidden in institutional labyrinths. Now it is public, visible, and verifiable,” Mickoski said.

Prime Minister Mickoski pointed out that the numbers speak best.

“Under the first public call, financed with government funds, 288 projects were approved, totaling nearly Mden 4.6 billion, or about €75 million. All 288 projects have now been launched, with contracts concluded with the respective economic operators,” he stated.

Prime Minister Mickoski said that of the 288 government-funded projects, 193 have been fully completed, 26 are in the final stages, 89 are actively underway, and six more will begin soon following tender completion. “These figures reflect tangible improvements: new streets, squares, water and sewer networks, parks, sports and cultural facilities, schools, and kindergartens. The projects include over 220 infrastructure investments, more than 40 in environmental initiatives, seven in sports, five in culture, and over ten major educational projects,” he said.

According to him, this means a better life, better services, better municipalities and a better state.

“At the same time, through the second public call for municipal funding, 828 new projects have been included, with a total value of Mden 13.8 million or over €225 million. Here too, we already see strong momentum: more than 50 projects are completed or in their final phase, and contracts have been signed for over 500 projects. This means the state is entering an even more intensive investment cycle, more machinery, more construction sites, more projects and more tangible results for citizens,” Mickoski stated.

PM Mickoski stressed that all these initiatives are conducted transparently, modernly, and responsibly. “The platform confirms that public funds are under oversight, institutions operate with clear rules, municipalities have equal access, and the government meets modern standards of accountability and digitalization,” he stated.

“Our goal is not just to build, but to build honestly, visibly, and measurably. Our aim is not only to implement projects, but to establish a new culture of governance where every piece of information is accessible, every step is documented, and every promise is verifiable,” he added.

It was emphasized that with this platform, the next phase of institutional maturity is opening a phase in which the state does not defend itself with words, as Mickoski said, but with data. It does not make excuses, he added, but demonstrates results. A phase in which, he stressed, citizens are the true monitors of public resources.

“I can say that this Government will continue to work in this way - openly, responsibly, and in the interest of every citizen of Macedonia,” Mickoski stated.

Government spokesperson Marija Miteva announced that the platform will continue to be upgraded.
