Coalition partners support SDSM over migrant resolution, Filipche urges ruling parties to follow suit

Skopje, 12 December 2025 (MIA) - The resolution on preventing migrants from third countries being transferred to the country should guarantee there will be no migrants in exchange for money, said SDSM leader Venko Filipche told a press conference after a meeting with coalition partners on Friday.

Filipche again urged PM and VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski to answer his calls and join them in endorsing the resolution in the Parliament.

"All parties within the coalition agreed over the enormous threat if we are sucked into such a model. We are committed to a joint fight, because we can do more if we are together. The resolution is not a partisan solution or a proposal, it is a statehood issue. This is a pact with the people," said Filipche.

According to him, the political and societal action would resume by meeting with representatives of the civil society, trade unions and students, "for the purpose of defending the state, democracy and security."

Asked about Mickoski's statement that he would retire from politics if proven that no migrants arrive in the country by next spring, Filipche noted the PM had said the same regarding the links of the Kochani nightclub security agency with the ruling authorities, "and yet he is still PM".

The SDSM leader said the PM should refrain from issuing threats, because the reports about the migrants have come from relevant British media outlets.

"The question has not been answered. Here is the solution, why don't we sign the resolution together. The document is already available for everyone to see. There people behind me believe it is the only way to protect ourselves," noted Filipche.
