Zelensky wants to consult with Europe following talks in the US

Kiev, 21 December 2025 (dpa/MIA) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke out on Sunday in favour of a new meeting with European allies following talks between a Ukrainian delegation and the US side in Miami, as diplomatic efforts continue to end Russia's war in Ukraine.

"There is a shared sense that after the work by our diplomatic team in the United States, we should now hold consultations with European partners in a broader circle," Zelensky wrote on X after holding a phone call with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

The Ukrainian delegation in Florida has been working with US negotiators and progress is being made rapidly, Zelensky wrote. He spoke of "constructive" negotiations, but did not give any details and thanked Norway for its support.

Following talks between negotiators from the United States, Europe and Ukraine in Berlin last Sunday and Monday, negotiations on a peace solution entered the next round in Florida this weekend.

The US negotiators wanted to relay the results from Berlin to Russian representatives. In an initial statement, Moscow's negotiator Kirill Dmitriev spoke of constructive discussions. Ukrainian and European representatives were also expected in Florida.

Zelensky accuses Russia of war crimes

Much depends on whether Russia feels the need to really end the war, Zelensky wrote. But on this Moscow is only sending negative signals, he added.

Zelensky accused Russia of attacks on the front line, war crimes in border regions and strikes against Ukraine's infrastructure.

Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for almost four years. According to Zelensky, Russian forces used approximately 1,300 combat drones, nearly 1,200 glide bombs and nine missiles and cruise missiles against Ukraine last week alone.
