Washington, 12 February 2025 (dpa/MIA) - US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin and they agreed to begin negotiations to end the war in Ukraine "immediately."
Trump, writing on his Truth Social platform, said he has asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Adviser Michael Waltz and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to lead the negotiations on the US side.
The Republican described his telephone call with Putin as "lengthy and highly productive," and said that they had also agreed to visit each other's countries.
Trump said he would call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to inform him of the conversation.
"I believe this effort will lead to a successful conclusion, hopefully soon!" he wrote.
