Siljanovska-Davkova meets chair of Turkish Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Oktay

Skopje, 29 January 2025 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met Wednesday with the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Fuat Oktay.
According to the President’s Office, at the meeting Siljanovska-Davkova extended condolences over the fire that happened in Kartalkaya. The two interlocutors highlighted the importance of mutual understanding and assistance in difficult moments.
“The meeting affirmed the strong Macedonian-Turkish friendship. It was concluded that the Turkish community in the country is an inseparable part of Macedonian society and that the citizens with Macedonian ancestry in Türkiye are a bridge between the two countries. The President once again highlighted her close relations to Türkiye related to her personal and professional experience, as well as her experience as an MP,” the President’s Office said in a press release.
Siljanovska-Davkova and Oktay stressed the significance of the strategic partnership for the overall relations between the two countries, especially in defense and security. They both expressed expectations for greater investments and increased trade.
The President voice support for the Turkish proposal to establish a high council for strategic cooperation between the two countries as a guarantee for the deepening of the strategic partnership. According to the press release, the interlocutors see the council as a legal and institutional framework for the intensification of the overall mutual cooperation.
“Fuat Oktay noted the great interest of numerous Turkish citizens with Macedonian ancestry to receive Macedonian nationality faster. Additionally, they see the area of tourism as room for greater cooperation,” the press release said.
