Russian negotiator says Ukraine talks 'constructive'

Washington, 21 December 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Talks in the United States on a peaceful solution to Moscow's war against Ukraine have so far been constructive, Russian chief negotiator Kirill Dmitriev was quoted as saying by the Russian state news agency TASS.
Dmitriev, an adviser to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, said the talks with the US side began on Saturday and were set to continue on Sunday, TASS reported.
"Discussions are being held constructively," Dmitriev told reporters, according to the agency.
The talks in the city of Miami in the US state of Florida include US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
The meeting marks the next round of negotiations after more than three and a half years of Russia's war against Ukraine.
Following talks between leading European countries, the US and Ukraine in Berlin last Sunday and Monday, US negotiators now want to discuss the results with Russian representatives. Washington sees itself as acting as a mediator.
Ukrainian and European government representatives were also expected to be in Florida, including Günter Sautter, the foreign policy adviser to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Media reports said a meeting with Witkoff was planned that would also include representatives from Britain and France. Talks between German and Russian officials were not planned.
