NLA veterans and supporters stage protest march in Skopje

Skopje, 13 December 2025 (MIA) - A protest march by veterans and supporters of the National Liberation Army (NLA) was held Saturday at Skanderbeg Square in Skopje. Participants expressed their support and demanded justice for former NLA leaders currently on trial in The Hague.

Alongside DUI leader Ali Ahmeti, who addressed the gathering as well as the party leadership, the protest was also attended by Zijadin Sela of the Alliance of Albanians.

“The NLA was not a criminal organization but fought for the rights and equality of Albanians. During the conflict, all international conventions were respected. The claims made in the indictment against the former NLA leaders on trial in The Hague are not true. We send a message to all international actors that there must be justice for these people,” it was stated at the protest march.

While the speeches were taking place, protest participants chanted in support of the NLA. Flags of Albania, Kosovo, and the USA were waved, and some attendees carried photos of the accused.

The protest passed peacefully, though a significant police presence was noticeable.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday the government does not support the march of veterans and supporters of the National Liberation Army (NLA) expected to be held in Skopje on Saturday, adding that a crisis HQ has been established to monitor developments related to the event.
