Mickoski: No migrant issue, opposition spreads fear and panic

Mickoski: No migrant issue, opposition spreads fear and panic

Skopje, 14 December 2025 (MIA) - The migrant issue does not exist. As a government, we have repeatedly stated that no such discussions are being held and that it has never been on our agenda. I think the prosecution should examine this spreading of fear and panic among citizens. The fact is that the previous government created a national strategy for migrant acceptance for 2017-2027, which asked municipalities to prepare sites for such camps. That is the truth, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated.

He added that we continuously respond, with me being the most relevant, the Prime Minister, along with the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and just a few days ago we stated that no such discussions are taking place.

“Alright, now SDSM have decided, following their PR experts, that they will push this topic for weeks, even though in reality they are the ones who created the national strategy for accepting migrants 2017-2027 and who asked municipalities to provide conditions for building these migrant camps. That is the truth. We now want to re-synchronize that truth and make it clear that such a thing has never crossed the mind of this government,” Mickoski said in response to a journalist’s question after the opening of the renovated police station in Butel, referring to the resolution announced Sunday by VMRO-DPMNE.

He emphasized that soon February will come, then March, and there will be no migrants; then June will come, and again there will be no migrants. He questioned what the response of those PR experts training SDSM will be.

“That is why I say the prosecution must also deal with this issue, because under the Criminal Code, this constitutes a form of violence, creating panic and unrest among citizens. If we issue denials once, twice, three times, and you continuously push this topic, you have the intention and tendency to create insecurity, panic, and fear among citizens, and you must be held criminally accountable for that. March will come, and no migrants will be accepted as a result of an agreement with the UK or any other agreement. June will come, and there will be no migrants, no migrant camps, and then under 100,000 votes will go to SDSM, and they will become a marginal party. If that is their goal, let them continue,” Mickoski said.

Asked about relations with ZNAM political party, Mickoski highlighted that they are excellent. “The government functions, I would say, stably, and I anticipate this will continue into the future,” he said.
