Skopje, 14 December 2025 (MIA) - Skopje International Airport is becoming the absolute regional leader in growth and the number of newly offered seats, according to the latest analysis by the specialized aviation website exyuaviation.com.
As announced by the Ministry of Transport, in the first quarter of 2026 Skopje Airport will add 316,528 more seats compared to the same quarter of 2025, making it the absolute regional leader. Belgrade Airport ranks behind Skopje International Airport with 267,000 additional seats, about 100,000 fewer than Skopje, while Zagreb Airport lags far behind with just 68,000 more seats in the first quarter of 2026.
“This is yet another indicator of the government’s successful policies, implemented through the Ministry of Transport, aimed at the strong development of air traffic in the country. In just one year, 21 new destinations were introduced from Skopje and Ohrid airports, demonstrating a clear commitment to the development of civil aviation, which directly impacts tourism and the overall economy. It should also be highlighted that just two days ago the three-millionth passenger was recorded at Skopje Airport, further confirming the government’s successful policies,” the Ministry said.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski said that the policies set in this way are delivering excellent results, and he expects the figures to grow even further next year.
“After the new Government was formed, we worked to help bring in new destinations. Since around September last year to this point, over the course of a year and a few months, 21 new destinations have been launched from Skopje and Ohrid airports, clearly demonstrating our dedication. No other country has achieved such a number of new destinations. These figures are no coincidence. It is no coincidence that Skopje Airport will end the year with more than 3.2 million passengers, that Ohrid Airport will exceed 300,000 passengers, or that the total number will surpass 3.5 million passengers. Growth is evident, we have recorded continuous growth this year. If in March we saw a 6% increase, April 9%, May 8%, June 12%, July 7%, August 9%, September 8%, October 12%, then already in November we have a 25% increase compared to last year, meaning the number of passengers traveling through Macedonian airports has risen by a quarter. I hope that next year, if not 4 million, at least 3.5 million passengers will be celebrated here at Skopje Airport,” Nikoloski said.
