Miteva: Gov't measures have direct effect on prices, LPG drops by Mden 5 per liter
- Government Spokesperson Marija Miteva told a press conference on Thursday that Makpetrol has reduced the retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Mden 5 per liter, i.e. from Mden 59 to Mden 54, as of midnight. In addition, a decrease of Mden 10 per kilogram has been recorded in wholesale trade, which is approximately Mden 5 per liter.
Skopje, 23 April 2026 (MIA) - Government Spokesperson Marija Miteva told a press conference on Thursday that Makpetrol has reduced the retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Mden 5 per liter, i.e. from Mden 59 to Mden 54, as of midnight. In addition, a decrease of Mden 10 per kilogram has been recorded in wholesale trade, which is approximately Mden 5 per liter.
"A particularly significant development is that other companies on the market are also following this trend. In retail, LPG prices at gas stations have already dropped by Mden 5-6 per liter and range from Mden 53 to Mden 54. This is not yet another isolated step, but a systemic reaction of the market, which comes as a result of a clear institutional signal and coordination," said Miteva.
She stressed that the downward trend is not the result of a short-term market coincidence, but the result of an analysis by the State Market Inspectorate, as well as an agreement and commitment by traders to lower gross margins.
According to Miteva, an agreement has been reached to lower the margins and hold them at that level in the coming period, so as to avoid oscillations, i.e. wholesale is looking at a drop of over 10 percent, with retail down by 9 to 10 percent.
"This measure resulted from systematic analysis and institutional action. Based on a detailed analysis conducted by the State Market Inspectorate, areas for correction in the price structure were detected, followed by discussions with traders and reaching an agreement to lower gross margins," the Government Speokesperson noted.
She expressed gratitude for the social responsibility being shown, adding that this is a core difference in approach.
"Instead of declarative policies, we are taking measures that have a direct effect on prices. Instead of passively monitoring the market, we are actively intervening where there is room for correction in the interest of citizens. We will continue with the same approach, with analysis, with dialogue and with concrete results. The market must work, but it must also be fair. And the interest of citizens will remain our top priority," Miteva said.
