Mickoski: Reforms don't only involve changing the Constitution

Kichevo, 15 May 2026 (MIA) – Reforms don’t only involve changing the Constitution. We’re focused on what is considered essential, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Friday when asked for a comment on the fulfilment of the reform agenda.
Speaking to reporters after a visit to the Municipality of Kichevo, Mickoski said they are optimistic when it comes to meeting all of the ten items in the reform agenda.
“We held a meeting with Mr Gert Jan Koopman [of the European Commission]. We are all optimistic that of the ten, we can deliver nine and a half, perhaps all ten – this is what we concluded,” he stated.
At least two steps, according to him, depend on the opposition taking part in them, including the Electoral Code.
“I hope sense will prevail,” Mickoski noted saying he hoped SDSM will re-join the working group on amending the Electoral Code.
"Because reforms don’t only involve changing the Constitution. I understand SDSM being spineless when it comes to the Macedonian identity. But reforms are a proof showing whether you are in favour of Europe, not only the inclusion of Bulgarians in the Constitution. There are more essential things we need to do. We are focused on them,” the PM concluded.
