Prespes, 5 June 2025 (MIA) – Macedonian Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski and Greek Minister of Interior Theodoros Livanios will officially launch EU-funded works in Prespes, Greece Thursday towards reopening of Markova Noga – Lemos border crossing.
The EU-funded works in North Macedonia kicked off in March 2025 and cover the construction of a new customs building at Markova Noga. Under the EU4Prespa programme €2 million are allocated for this purpose. Works are expected to end in summer 2026.

The EU-funded works in Greece will run through the BorPres2 project for cross border cooperation of strategic importance to cover the construction of a new customs and police control building in Laimos, Greece, as well as a renovation of the existing police station at Markova Noga in North Macedonia. €7,73 million are allocated under the EU-funded INTERREG programme for cross-border cooperation between North Macedonia and Greece, for this purpose. Works’ timeline is 36 months.
The two-fold EU-funding for Markova Noga – Lemos border crossing aims to stimulate the economic development of Prespa/Prespes region. Travel time between Resen and Lemos will be reduced from over 2 hours to just 40 minutes, enabling greater cross-border mobility, stronger economic and cultural exchanges, and a boost in regional tourism. The crossing will support cars and passenger vehicles (up to 10 people), while excluding trucks and buses to protect the area’s fragile natural and cultural environment, EU Delegation said in a press release.
EU Ambassador to North Macedonia, Michalis Rokas, is also expected to attend the event in Lemos.
