Import of 26 tons of chicken from Brazil halted at Kjafasan border crossing
- Inspection services of the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) at the Kjafasan border crossing prevented the import of over 26 tons of frozen boneless chicken drumsticks due to non-compliance with import requirements.
Skopje, 14 December 2025 (MIA) - Inspection services of the Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) at the Kjafasan border crossing prevented the import of over 26 tons of frozen boneless chicken drumsticks due to non-compliance with import requirements.
The shipment consisted of 2,167 packages of 12 kilograms of frozen chicken meat each, which, following an import ban issued by the FVA’s official veterinarians, was returned to the exporting country – Brazil.
According to the FVA, the import ban was imposed because the shipment violated the issued decision prohibiting the import of live animals, products, and by-products of animal origin from Brazil, aimed at preventing the introduction of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (bird flu).
Under this decision, the import of shipments originating from animals that were slaughtered, packed, and certified prior to August 1, 2025, is banned.
