Skopje, 5 May 2026 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi extended a greeting to Macedonian citizens on May 5 - Macedonian Language Day, noting that Macedonian language is a cornerstone of our common state.
“Dear fellow Macedonians, on behalf of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia and on my behalf, I extend my most sincere congratulations on the occasion of the Macedonian Language Day. The Macedonian language is a cornerstone of our common state. In addition to enabling communication, the Macedonian language is also a means of institutional functioning and official communication in our country,” Gashi said in his greeting.
As a separate language in the group of South Slavic languages, he added, the Macedonian language has managed to become a developed language of literature, education, science and culture. In addition, as part of the Balkan Language Union, the Macedonian language together with Albanian and other languages have created unique features that have contributed to the formation of a new linguistic discipline, such as Balkan studies.
“In a multiethnic society like ours, respect for the languages and cultures of all communities is the bedrock of cohesion and coexistence. The promotion of the Macedonian language goes hand in hand with our commitment to guaranteeing the linguistic rights of every citizen, building bridges of understanding and mutual respect,” Gashi pointed out.
He stressed that the Parliament remains committed to promoting institutional standards and implementing practices that guarantee clear, efficient and responsible communication.
“May we continue to work together to preserve, enrich and promote the Macedonian language, as well as to strengthen unity and harmony in our country,” Gashi said in his greeting on May 5 – Macedonian Language Day.
