Foreign countries' offers of longer-term medical care for burn patients being considered

Skopje, 6 April 2025 (MIA) — Several countries have offered to provide longer-term medical care to the injured in the Kochani fire and health authorities are considering the offers, according to a Ministry of Health representative.

Igor Nikolov, a physician providing official information on the condition of the burn patients, told MIA that health authorities were evaluating the current needs to take the foreign hospitals' offers "to treat or guide patients during their long-term recovery."

"Currently, a patient who returned from Hungary is at the Plastic Surgery Clinic. Three patients have been sent for home treatment, after being given recommendations for regular check-ups. There are six patients at St. Naum of Ohrid Hospital. All of them are stable. We are expecting them to be discharged tomorrow. There are two patients at the Toxicology Clinic. Both are stable," Nikolov said.

Sixty-nine people are receiving medical treatment for their burns and inhalation injuries from the Kochani fire in hospitals abroad. There are no plans for their return to the country at the moment.

The fire that tore through the Pulse nightclub in Kochani on March 16 killed 60 people and injured around 200. mr/
