First Deputy PM Sali meets U.K. Ambassador Lawson

Skopje, 7 May 2026 (MIA) - First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs Bekim Sali met Wednesday with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Matthew Lawson, reaffirming the partnership and cooperation between the two countries.

In a press release, Sali’s office said the United Kingdom is an important strategic partner and supporter of the country, especially in the processes of implementing reforms, strengthening democratic institutions, economic development, security, and institutional transformation. 

“Minister Sali stressed the Government remains fully committed to the implementation of the Reform Agenda 2024-2027 and the Western Balkans Growth Plan as key mechanisms for the modernization of the country, improvement of public services, and acceleration of the country’s convergence with the European Union. The importance of good governance, institutional coordination, digitization, cybersecurity, fight against disinformation, and the development of policies based on results and institutional accountability was stressed during the discussion,” the press release said.

Deputy PM Sali and Ambassador Lawson also discussed opportunities for the enhancement of economic cooperation, investments, infrastructure projects, innovations, as well as the green and digital transformation.

Sali assessed the United Kingdom’s continued support for democratic processes, institutional strengthening and the country’s long-term development as especially significant, stressing that the partnership between the two countries remains based on shared democratic values, rule of law, and regional stability.
