Clear energy transformation and specific results: German-Macedonian joint committee

Skopje, 28 April 2026 (MIA) - Energy transformation is not a plan for the future but a process that is already producing results, said the Macedonian delegation at the meeting of the Macedonian-German joint economic committee that took place in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources State Secretary Goran Jovanovski took part in the meeting and referred to the country's energy policy, decarbonization, investment development and security supply.

State Secretary Jovanovski said the country is implementing a resolute energy policy based on two key priorities - accelerated decarbonization and safe and stable energy supply. Passing the new Energy Law in 2025 set up a modern, transparent and fully aligned system with European standards, ensuring predictability for investors and an end to market uncertainty.

"The state no longer follows the market but creates its development," said Jovanovski while adding that systematic planning and annual plans on new energy facilities and storage make development coordinated, predictable and strategically focused.

He added that a strong investment cycle in renewables and energy storage is ongoing, resulting in rising domestic production, reduced dependency on imports, and strengthened energy independence. In parallel, the country is investing in the energy grid and the development of smart capacities as basis for a green transition, the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources said in a press release.

Jovanovski said energy transition remains a top priority, through diversification of sources, new interconnections and enhanced regional integration, adding, "energy stability is not only an economic issue but also one of national security".

Meeting participants exchanged bilateral economic analyses and perspectives, ensuring direct dialogue with chambers of commerce, the business community and expert teams, with a focus on the investment climate and joint strategic priorities.

Macedonia, reads the press release, remains firmly committed to its European path, clearly oriented to full alignment with EU standards in energy and climate policies, through concrete reforms, transparent implementation and measurable results.
