Toshkovski – Hani: Strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms and enhancing regional cooperation

Skopje, 2 March 2026 (MIA) - Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski met Monday with the Director of the Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative (RAI) Secretariat, Albert Hani, and discussed ways to enhance cooperation and reinforce institutional capacities for combating corruption.

According to the Interior Ministry, the discussions focused on training for the preparation of the National Corruption Risk Assessment and the anti-corruption review of legislation in the field of internal affairs. The meeting highlighted Macedonia’s active role as a signatory to the International Treaty on the Exchange of Data for the Verification of Asset Declarations. It was emphasized that our country serves as a leading example and reference point for states that have not yet joined this mechanism.

Toshkovski underscored the need for a systematic approach to identify and reduce corruption risks in the security sector, and underlined the value of regional cooperation and sharing best practices.

“Fighting corruption is one of our top priorities. By strengthening institutional integrity, improving the legislative framework, and using modern risk assessment mechanisms, we are creating a system in which corruption becomes increasingly difficult, costly, and unprofitable. The support and expertise of the Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative (RAI) play an important role in this process, and the Ministry of Interior remains fully committed to developing effective and sustainable anti-corruption policies,” Toshkovski noted.

At the meeting, concrete opportunities for future cooperation were also discussed, through joint activities, training, and projects aimed at strengthening preventive and enforcement mechanisms in combating corruption, the Interior Ministry said in a press release.
