Andonovski attends Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

Skopje, 2 March 2026 (MIA) - Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski is on a working visit to Spain on Monday, where he is participating in Mobile World Congress (MWC26) in Barcelona, the world’s largest event bringing together policymakers on digitalization, representatives of telecom operators, and major manufacturers of mobile devices and digital solutions.

As part of the visit, as reported by Minister’s Office, Andonovski focused on lobbying for the “roaming like at home” principle, aiming to further improve conditions for citizens and businesses by reducing roaming costs and aligning with European standards.

Andonovski took part in the GSMA Ministerial Programme, where key policies and priorities related to connectivity, digital infrastructure, security, and future network technologies were discussed.

“This is the world’s largest event bringing together digitalization policymakers, representatives of telecom operators, and the leading manufacturers of mobile devices. Together with government officials and private sector representatives, we discuss the issues that most affect our citizens and users. For us, this is of course the ‘roaming like at home’ project – meaning home prices for mobile services, SMS, and internet anywhere in the European Union. I can say that we are receiving strong support for this project from governments and our international partners, as well as understanding from the major telecom operators,” Andonovski noted.

Andonovski held meetings with mobile operators present in North Macedonia and with many international equipment manufacturers and cloud service providers.

“We focused on the key challenges facing the digital sector today: building data centers, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and the complete digital transformation of society,” he said.
