Skopje, 17 February 2026 (MIA) - Heavy rainfalls across the country have led to a significant increase in river water levels of up to four times the February average, said the National Hydrometeorological Service on Tuesday.

The water level of Treska river near Makedonski Brod stands at 196 cm, four times the February average of 49 cm, whereas the Vardar level near Jegunovce is 220 cm, more than double the month's average. The Vardar water levels are also significantly higher near Skopje, Veles and Demir Kapija.

Other rivers have also swelled, such as Crna Reka near Novaci, Bregalnica near Berovo, Pchinja near Katlanovska Banja, Sateska near Botun and Crn Drim near Lozhani.
