Siljanovska Davkova - Varnes: US - Macedonian strategic partnership and NATO alliance important for stability in time of security challenges

Skopje, 17 February 2026 (MIA) - International relations, developments in NATO, EU and the region, as well as the country's reform processes were in the focus of Tuesday's meeting of President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova with United States Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires Nicole Varnes.

Interlocutors focused on the country's judicial reforms, digitalization, fight against corruption and organized crime, and realization of infrastructure projects. They agreed that the inclusive decision-making model and meritocracy in all walks of life, especially in the education system and the recruitment of staff in public administration are key to the country's European integration and its prosperity, while highlighting that US - Macedonian strategic partnership and NATO alliance are important for stability in time of security challenges, the President's Office said in a press release.

The President voiced readiness for further cooperation with the same dynamics and commitment as with the previous US ambassador.

Chargé d’Affaires Varnes reaffirmed the US readiness to promote friendly relations, welcoming the recent joint statement on reciprocal trade as a significant step in strengthening economic cooperation, with both expecting the Action Plan to specify many projects in the citizens' interest, reads the press release.
