Mickoski: VMRO-DPMNE council members to present initiative against migrant camps, spreading false panic is a crime
- Next week VMRO-DPMNE's council members will submit documents to municipal council reaffirming the policy against illegal migration and similar processes, noting that no migrant camps will be established in those municipalities. Skopje, 12 December 2025 (MIA) - Next week VMRO-DPMNE's council members will submit documents to municipal council reaffirming the policy against illegal migration and similar processes, noting that no migrant camps will be established in those municipalities. The relevant institutions will also be asked, in line with the Criminal Code, to launch proceedings against everyone spreading fear and panic despite the public denials issued by the government, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists on Friday.
Quizzed about accusations by opposition party SDSM over the country potentially accepting failed asylum seekers from the United Kingdom, Mickoski reiterated the government's position, while also highlighting that anti-immigrant policy is one of VMRO-DPMNE's fundamental values.
“I cannot help but wonder who convinced them [SDSM] to pursue this topic because this topic does not benefit them at all, since they were the ones who voted to build such reception centers which resulted in protests in the past including by us. In a previous statement, I said that anti-immigrant policy is one of VMRO-DPMNE's fundamental values, something over which we were accused of being a xenophobic party. Now the accusations by SDSM are the complete opposite, and the truth is clear. Such a thing won’t happen, nor is there a plan for such a thing to happen, in fact this is what the statements from the sole official source, the British Embassy in the country, said as well,” Mickoski said.
The Prime Minister urged the competent authorities to launch proceedings against everyone spreading fear and panic despite the denials issued by the government.
“They are criminally responsible for their actions. I understand they have problems in their party, they cannot constitute an executive board or municipal organizations, no one wants to be a part of it, and that’s fine. I understand them pushing this topic once or twice, but when there is an official denial from the Prime Minister, the relevant ministries, I think at that point you are crossing the Rubicon and you are, with full awareness, spreading panic and certain sanctions are foreseen for this in the Criminal Code. I urge the relevant authorities to free themselves from the bonds imposed by the previous government of SDSM and DUI, and launch proceedings against these individuals because many citizens are understandably calling me and asking me about this issue even though we have been saying it won’t happen for a week now,” Mickoski said.
