Mickoski: Macedonia strengthens electricity and gas transmission lanes, works on interconnectors with Greece and Serbia

Skopje, 23 January 2026 (MIA) - Macedonia is strengthening electricity and gas transmission lanes, it is building a gas interconnector with Greece and is launching the construction of a gas interconnector with Serbia, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told a panel within the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.

PM Mickoski wrote in a Facebook post that his address also focused on the construction of three large dams - strategic projects worth EUR 2 billion - that would ensure electricity production and create three large reservoirs.

"At yesterday's panel in Davos dedicated to economy and investments, I spoke about the strategic steps we are undertaking regarding artificial intelligence, energy and the country's long-term development. With regards to AI, we are strengthening our electricity and gas transmission lanes. In this context, we are building a gas interconnector with Greece and starting to construct a gas interconnector with Serbia. These are strategic projects not only for our country but the region as well," says Mickoski and adds that the interconnectors would increase the country's annual gas capacities up to 8 billion m3.

On the dams, the PM notes the rising need to secure reserves of drinking water.

"Considering climate change, there is an increasing need for such reserves in the region, ensuring long-term water security and stable supply of clean water," adds Mickoski.
