Skopje, 23 January 2026 (MIA) - The Parliament adopted Friday the amendments to the Law on Misdemeanors, opening the way for the February 1 launch of the Safe City system for recording and sanctioning of traffic violations.
Fast and efficient sanctioning is expected to have an impact on the general prevention in the field of traffic safety.
In the first stage of the system's implementation, it will register violations such as speeding, running a red light, expired driving license and unauthorized parking, while the range of violations is set to broaden in the next stage.
Once the system is in force, vehicle owners will receive a text message and an e-mail including a link to the ticket explaining the violation and the respective fine, which can be paid online. For certain violations that include a driving ban, the Ministry of Interior will file a motion for initiation of court proceedings.
