City cruise past Dortmund, Barcelona get lucky point at Brugge

Berlin, 6 November 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Erling Haaland scored against his former club as his Manchester City cruised to a 4-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday in the Champions League, while Barcelona grabbed a point in a 3-3 draw thanks to a Club Brugge's own goal.
Haaland added his name to the scoresheet five minutes after Phil Foden's opener in the 22nd minute.
Foden completed his brace in the 57th before Dortmund pulled one back in the 72nd. But Rayan Cherki restored City's three-goal advantage in stoppage time.
Brugge had the lead three times against Barcelona, but had to share the points after Christos Tzolis scored an own goal in the 77th to give Barça their final equalizer.
Brugge thought they had sealed an epic win in stoppage time, but Romeo Vermant's goal was ruled out due to a foul in the play.
Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, defeated Benfica 1-0 to claim their first win in the competition and bounce back from a 7-2 defeat to title holders Paris Saint-Germain in the previous matchday two weeks ago.
Runners-up Inter Milan made it four wins in as many games with a 2-1 triumph against Kairat Almaty. Inter, Arsenal and leaders Bayern Munich are the only teams who have won all of their Champions League games so far this season.
Elsewhere, Newcastle defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-0, Galatasaray won at Ajax 3-0 and Atalanta claimed a narrow 1-0 win at Olympique Marseille.
In the early games, Chelsea took a 1-0 lead but had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Qarabag, while debutants Pafos claimed their first-ever victory in the competition in a 1-0 win against Villarreal.
Dortmund's performance 'not enough'
Dortmund goalkeeper recognized that the performance from his team was "not enough" to beat City.
"It wasn't good. There were moments in which we played well, in the first 15 minutes. Then it wasn't enough. I don't understand why. But nevertheless I think four goals are too much in the end," he told broadcasters DAZN.
City took the lead in the 22nd after Foden collected Tijjani Reijnders' pass before firing a low shot from the edge of the box out of Kobel's reach.
Just seven minutes later, Haaland inflicted more pain on his former club.
Jeremy Doku recovered the ball inside the box after a bad clearance from the Dortmund defence and found the Norwegian, who swept a powerful shot into the net.
Foden combined again with Reijnders in the 57th to complete his brace, curling a precise shot around a Dortmund defender and inside the far post.
Waldemar Anton added one for Dortmund from a well-worked set piece, but Cherki's effort in stoppage time sealed the win for manager Pep Guardiola's side.
"It was a great night against a good opponent. I think we started well and scored some good goals. The second half was a bit difficult but as a team we are very happy with this victory," Doku told TNT Sports.
Six-goal thriller in Belgium
Brugge took an early lead in the sixth minute as Carlos Forbs beat the offside trap, reached the area and played a cross to Nicolo Tresoldi, who slid to finish with his right foot.
But they couldn't properly celebrate the goal because Barcelona hit back three minutes later as Ferran Torres finished off Fermin Lopez's cross.
The hosts retook the lead as Forbs scored one himself, curling a finish past the advancing Wojciech Szczęsny in the 17th.
Barcelona brought themselves level again thanks to Lamine Yamal, who dazzled his way beyond the markers after a one-two with López before striking from an angle in the 61st
This time, however, it was Barça who didn't celebrate long as Forbs completed his brace in the 63rd to give Brugge the lead for a third time.
But the big win didn't come as Yamal's effort in the 77th took a deflection off Tzolis' head on its way into the net as each side had to settle for a point.
"It wasn't an easy match. We created chances, but they defended well and were aggressive. We didn't press the ball and lost many duels, especially in midfield," Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said.
Schick comes from the bench to rescue Leverkusen
Benfica hit the woodwork twice in the first half and pressured Leverkusen goalkeeper Mark Flekken but couldn't find a way through.
Leverkusen, however, managed to break the deadlock thanks to substitute Patrik Schick.
The Czech striker was initially denied by Anatoliy Trubin, but had a quick reaction to recover a misplaced clearance and give Leverkusen their first win in this season's Champions League in the 65th.
"I'm very happy we won. It was important. Benfica were very, very dangerous today," Schick told DAZN.
