Strumica, 22 March 2025 (MIA) - The wildfire near Strumica is under full control and poses no threat to surrounding weekend homes, said the Crisis Management Center (CMC) late on Friday.

Strumica Mayor Kostadin Kostadinov said the large wildfire was caused by stubble burning.

"Our Strumica firefighters, supported by colleagues from Radovish, Valandovo and Gevgelija, have managed to neutralize the fire rather quickly, preventing any loss of lives or property, for which I am extremely grateful. I would once again urge citizens to be responsible so that such disasters do not occur," said Kostadinov.

Firefighting unit commander Aleksandar Gudev said the fire broke out in area Sofilar, in close vicinity of Strumica.

"The strong winds contributed to its spreading. One small section is still burning but is under control. The fire is localized and we will fully extinguish it shortly," said Gudev.
