Emergency inspections of all public facilities nationwide: ZELS chair

Skopje, 23 March 2025 (MIA) - All municipalities, coordinated by the Association of Local Self-Government Units (ZELS), have launched emergency inspections of all public facilities across the country, including schools, kindergartens, sports halls, culture centers, bars and restaurants, said ZELS chair and Kisela Voda Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski on Sunday.
Gjorgjievski said the inspections would be a continued process and all facilities are to be checked for their safety in the coming weeks and months.
"The lack of inspectors, especially in smaller municipalities, is a challenge. In many municipalities, there is not a single housing inspector or inspectors in other fields. We will have to solve this through inter-municipal cooperation in the coming period," said Gjorgjievski.
He noted that ZELS is undertaking the role of coordinator of all local activities, mutual assistance and sharing of resources, while adding that detailed inspections of facilities, documentation and observance of safety standards are being carried out in larger municipalities.
"There will be zero tolerance for irregularities. Decisive measures will be undertaken, in accordance with the jurisdiction of the local self-government," said Gjorgjievski.
