Skopje, 8 May 2026 (MIA) - The sixth annual "Generalka Weekend", the largest eco-campaign in the country and the Balkans, will officially open on Friday.

The campaign will include tens of thousands of volunteers in 80 municipalities, 600 organizations, public institutions and businesses.

President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski, Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Muamet Hoxha, and Austrian Ambassador Martin Pammer will attend a press conference on the event's opening.

This is the largest logistical waste collection and awareness raising operation, an annual tradition which proves that care for the homeland can bring together people of various societal, cultural and public backgrounds, say the organizers.

Over the next three days, the campaign will be carried out at more than 500 locations across 80 municipalities nationwide, in cooperation with the Red Cross.

Besides cleaning activities, eco-education programme "Eco Class" is implemented in schools across the country, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science and UNICEF.

The slogan of the initiative is "Let's Get Dirty and Clean".
