Skopje, 8 December 2025 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova sent greetings to all Orthodox believers on the occasion of the national holiday St. Clement of Ohrid.
In her message, the President stated that ahead of us lies the great task of re-teaching the virtues that sustain the community.
“Just as in St. Clement’s time, we need a shared, higher purpose around which to foster relationships and overcome divisions. By upholding the rule of law, combating corruption, promoting social justice, and caring for one another, we can renew the social contract of free citizens, equal before the law and united for the common good. Let St. Clement’s message of humility, mercy, knowledge, and solidarity be our guide and inspiration to make Macedonian state a fair, decent, and dignified place to live,” Siljanovska-Davkova said.
She noted that the memory of the Ohrid saint is etched not only in the collective memory of the Macedonian people but across all Slavic nations.
“As his image decorates our churches, so his name graces numerous educational, scientific, and cultural institutions. St. Clement’s greatest heritage lies in literacy and the values that allowed people to comprehend books, understand themselves, and recognize that they are responsible not only for their own lives but also for the life of the community. Under his leadership, our region evolved from a political periphery into an educational, cultural, and spiritual center, with ancient Ohrid as its spiritual capital. The Ohrid Literary School, along with its spiritual and artistic treasures, left a lasting impact on European civilization, surviving empires, systems, and ideologies thanks to its enduring value and universal human significance,” reads the President’s message.
