Sofia, 4 April 2025 (MIA) – President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova is to attend a high-level meeting of the “Aqaba Process for the Balkans III” in Sofia on Friday.
As MIA’s correspondent from Sofia reported, Siljanovska Davkova was invited by the Bulgaria’s President, Rumen Radev, and King Abdullah II of Jordan.
Siljanovska Davkova will speak at the first session of the meeting titled “Identifying and Understanding Threats.”
During the visit, President Siljanovska Davkova is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev and the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Abdullah II.
During the meeting, heads of state, government officials, and representatives of intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations will discuss security issues with a focus on the Balkans.
“Aqaba Process for the Balkans III” forum is a continuation of earlier meetings within the initiative, which were held in 2016 in Aqaba, Jordan, and in 2018 in Tirana, Albania.
The goal of the forum in Sofia is for the state leaders from Southeast Europe, together with government officials, institutions and partners of the Aqaba Process to analyze the security architecture of the Balkans, discuss regional mechanisms for information exchange, and coordinate efforts in combating illegal migration, terrorism, radicalization and extremism.
Initiated by King Abdullah II in 2015, the Aqaba Process is a series of international meetings aimed at fostering international and regional coordination in countering terrorism, extremist ideologies and radicalization through a comprehensive approach.
Last November, Siljanovska Davkova and Radev met on the sidelines of the COP29 Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The talks were held in a constructive atmosphere, focused on improving Macedonian – Bulgarian relations, overcoming unresolved issues between the two countries and exploring opportunities for deepening and enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, according to the President’s Office.
Bulgarian President Radev emphasized the need for a swift resolution of unresolved issues, as well as the importance of establishing strong relations in all areas of mutual interest to ensure better mutual understanding.
