Report: Putin is ready to speak with Macron, Kremlin spokesman says

Moscow, 21 December 2025 (dpa/MIA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready for talks with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Russian state news agency Ria Novosti on Sunday.
Putin believes if there is mutual political will, talks between the two can only be seen positively, Peskov said.
On Friday, Macron said that it could be useful for Europe and Ukraine to speak with Putin again in order to be directly involved in the discussion.
“Otherwise, we are discussing among ourselves with negotiators who will negotiate on their own with the Russians. That is not optimal,” the French president said.
Ukrainians, Americans, and Europeans held talks last Sunday and Monday in Berlin on a peace solution for Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia nearly four years ago.
In Miami, talks over the weekend entered the next round. The US negotiators intend to relay the results from Berlin back to the Russian representatives. Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev described the talks as constructive after the first round.
