13 November 2022 (MIA) Macedonian Orthodox Church Calendar The Holy Apostles Stachys, Amplias, Urban, Narcissus, Apelles and Aristobulus They were of the Seventy. St Stachys was a helper of St Andrew the First-Called, who made him bishop of Byzantium. He built a church in Argyropolis, and governed his flock with faithfulness and zeal. After sixteen years as bishop, he entered peacefully into rest in the Lord. Amplias and Urban were also fellow-workers with St Andrew, and were made bishop by him, Amplias in Lydda and Urban in Macedonia. They both died as martyrs for Christ the Lord. Narcissus was made Bishop of Athens by the Apostle Philip, and holy Apelles was Bishop of Heraklion in Trachis. Aristobulus, the brother of the Apostle Barnabas, preached the Christian faith in Britain and died peacefully there. He is also commemorated on March 16. Catholic Calendar St. Stanislaus Kostka Born to a family of Polish nobility; son of a senator. Attended the Viennese Jesuit college from age 14 with his brother Paul, who badly mistreated him. While staying at the home of a Lutheran, he became gravely ill, but was not allowed to call for a priest. He prayed to his patron, Saint Barbara, who appeared to him in a vision with two angels, and administered Communion. He was then cured from his disease by Our Lady who told him to become a Jesuit against his family’s wishes. Attended the Jesuit college in Rome. Friend of Saint Peter Canisius. Jesuit novice from October 28, 1567. Student of Saint Francis Borgia. Born on October 1550 at Rostkovo, Poland and died on August 14, 1568 on the feast of the Assumption. He was canonised on 1726.
