Skopje, 24 April 2026 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova told journalists Friday she congratulated Rumen Radev on his party’s victory in the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria, stressing that she expects the new Bulgarian Government to have a constructive approach and an understanding of the need for enlargement.
“Of course I congratulated him, I sent him a message, and he also called me. We spoke. I wished him success and I expressed my belief that winning such a significant majority is a guarantee of stability, that very likely the Bulgarian people saw in him a stable element of the country, and that he will probably easily form a government and realize his program,” the President said in answer to a journalist’s question on the sidelines of the 20th Conference of Presidents/Speakers of Parliaments of Adriatic-Ionian Initiative held in Parliament.
The President said stability in Bulgaria is important on the Macedonian side of the border as well since the country will have a partner for discussion.
“I stressed that a regional approach is important for me, that I expect a friendly approach, a constructive approach, and an understanding of the need for enlargement. Of course, I expect a meeting to be organized,” President Siljanovska-Davkova said.
Radev’s newly formed party Progressive Bulgaria won an absolute majority in Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Bulgaria.
