PM calls for unity around principles and values

Skopje, 9 May 2026 (MIA) - We need unity in our shared struggle for a better life, stronger economy, just society, and a country where young people will want to stay, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Saturday at an event marking May 9 – Victory over Fascism Day and Europe Day.

“As a nation, we have always known that strength lies in togetherness. In our history there have been moments when we were divided, disappointed, and pushed aside. But whenever we were united around the country, around the people, and around the future – we prevailed. Today we need exactly that. Unity. Not in divisions, but in our shared struggle for a better life, a stronger economy, a just society, and a country where young people will want to stay. Great steps have always been taken by individuals who saw the bigger picture. I regret that this extended hand of unity was often rejected. But there are also politicians who, in order to reach unity, must understand that they need to move forward, not stand still or go backward. We mustn’t refuse dialogue, and we mustn’t stay closed off in our own circles and completely cut off from reality,” Mickoski said.

“Mediocrities from such ranks,” the PM added, “create a hypocritical reflection that can be seen in statements and criticisms claiming to support unity and European integration, while at the same time not voting for a single law from the reform agenda that is a priority of that very same Europe.”

“Such nihilism creates hatred, but also a cloud in which they themselves cannot recognize who they are. Their wandering through such a space is reflected in the inconsistency of their positions. Usually, their positions on key issues change from morning to noon. And there are frequent cases when, though they have eyes, they act blind, and though they have ears, they act deaf. The politics of spying on their own country makes them good servants of foreign factors, but not friends of their own people. That is why, more than ever, it is necessary to see what really matters and achieve unity. But unity of principles and unity of values,” Mickoski said.
