Skopje, 20 November 2024 (MIA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski held a meeting Wednesday with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) led by the EBRD Regional Director for the Western Balkans, Matteo Colangeli, during which they spoke about support for capital projects and the improvement of infrastructure.
At the meeting, according to the Ministry, Nikoloski and the EBRD representatives spoke about financial support for the realization of capital projects with a special emphasis on the construction of the Skopje – Blace motorway, the construction of the Corridor X high-speed rail, as well as the completion of the Corridor VIII railway.
Nikoloski underscored the Government’s commitment to the implementation of the projects and stressed the significance of EBRD’s involvement in the efforts to improve the projects in order to determine the most appropriate options for their construction.
The meeting also discussed the dynamic of construction, with Nikoloski noting that in the coming period the Government will accelerate the procedures for realization.
“Today’s meeting with EBRD was constructive and aimed at finding joint solutions so that we can construct a high-quality motorway at a realistic price, as opposed to previous plans, and of course, without harming the budget and the citizens. The working group is engaged in identifying a new route and I expect that very soon we will have a new, cheaper route than the one previously offered,” Nikoloski said after the meeting.
He added that the country is firmly committed to regional connection and economic development, possessing a firm willingness to complete the significant infrastructure projects.
