Nikoloski: Macedonia desperately needs justice, Nenad Saveski is a professional with untarnished reputation

Skopje, 18 March 2026 (MIA) – Parliament at Wednesday’s session is debating the election of Nenad Saveski as new state chief public prosecutor.

The government’s motion on Saveski’s nomination was elaborated in Parliament by the Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister, Aleksandar Nikoloski.

“Macedonia desperately needs justice and rule of law. It needs opening and processing of cases to improve the image of the country and the judicial system,” Nikoloski said speaking from the podium.

Saveski, he noted, is an esteemed professional whose professional career is untarnished.

“Unfortunately, the situation the judiciary is in doesn’t result in public confidence, it’s a situation making people trust the system less and less, where there’s more often injustice than justice and when there’s justice, people are sceptical wondering whether the right decision was made. It’s no coincidence that there is no debate, no criticism of the prosecution and judicial system, so it’s no coincidence that these two institutions have a ranking of about 2 percent. The new chief prosecutor we’re proposing, Nenad Saveski, will have a serious task. He is an experienced professional who has served as a prosecutor and a judge and now he has the chance to be the top prosecutor,” said Nikoloski.

He called Saveski “a bright example in the Macedonian judiciary and prosecution.”

“We have a person who is motivated and who will be tasked with delivering justice in Macedonia,” Nikoloski told the MPs.

Saveski, currently a judge at the Skopje-based Criminal Court, was nominated by the government on March 10 and requires a minimum of 61 parliamentary votes to be appointed. His nomination follows the resignation of former chief prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski, after a selection process involving five candidates.
