Defense Minister Misajlovski on U.S. Strategic Dialogue: Jointly developing defense capabilities for over three decades

Skopje, 7 April 2026 (MIA) - Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski headed the first session of the discussions dedicated to defense and security affairs of the Strategic Dialogue with the United States, held in Washington on Tuesday.

Minister Misajlovski referred to the long-term partnership between the two allied countries, which strengthens the defense capacities, peace and security, while highlighting the bilateral defense cooperation and the potential for a stronger and more comprehensive collaboration in the field of defense and security, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release.

Misajlovski thanked the United States for its long-standing support and added that the strategic partnership is a key factor in the process of transformation, improvement, development and modernization of the country's defense capacities and capabilities. 

"The continued support of the United States and the other allies has ensured a stable and sustainable security development, alignment with NATO standards and meeting of the Alliance's capability goals," he added.

The Defense Minister said that 67 acquisition projects were implemented over the past three decades through US cooperation programmes, benefiting the Macedonian Army, in addition to the numerous joint exercises, training and education for the defense and army staff.

Sixteen procurement contracts are currently implemented with the U.S. on various types of defense capacities and additional options for continued and significant development of the cooperation are also reviewed.

Misajlovski also highlighted the defense budget and plans for the coming decade, saying "defense investments are strategically focused on modernization, interoperability, readiness and resilience."

In the framework of the Strategic Dialogue, the Government delegation is set to meet with senior officials from the State Department, with talks focusing on defense, security, economy and energy, reads the press release.
