Skopje, 4 November 2025 (MIA) — Doctors at the University Clinic of Cardiology have performed the country's first ventricular tachycardia ablation, a medical procedure that uses energy to restore a regular heart rhythm in people with heart problems, health authorities said Tuesday.

At a press conference held at the Cardiology Clinic, Minister of Health Azir Aliu praised the team of cardiologists for "showing that Macedonian health care has the knowledge, the courage and the vision to achieve outstanding results."

He was joined by Health Insurance Fund director Sasho Klekovski and hospital director Danica Petkoska Spirova, who said the procedure was a significant step in the development of cardiac electrophysiology. She also said the success of the procedure confirmed the heart doctors' high expertise and dedication.

"With this procedure, we are making it possible for patients with any type of arrhythmia to get the timely and efficient treatment some of them were previously sent to seek abroad, at the expense of the Health Insurance Fund," she said. mr/
