Skopje, 4 December 2025 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE is far ahead of other political parties, as per two surveys that we have commissioned, but we don't intend to hold snap elections because we are guided by statehood, not partisan interests. The Government is committed to the reforms, the economy and a better life for citizens, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Thursday.
PM Mickoski told a press briefing they see elections through a statehood, not partisan lens, since the country is set to repay a EUR 2.2 billion debt in 2026, a Euro-bond is to be issued in January, whereas the process of reforms would halt in case of elections.
Considering that he is the only candidate for party leader at this weekend's congress, Mickoski is planning to nominate a new composition of the executive committee shortly after, with the entire process expected to finish by the end of March.
"People have been in the party structures for eight years now and we need a refreshment. This would signal a sort of soft transition for the next congress four years from now," said Mickoski.
The PM said a Government reshuffle would possibly take place next April or May, with the ensuing cabinet to finish the Government's term in office.
"Although nothing is certain in politics, there are no indicators for an early vote for now, and the next parliamentary elections are set to take place in the regular term. The Government coalition is operating in a decent way," said Mickoski.
The election of Muhamed Hoxha for Minister of Environment and Physical Planning and Bekim Sali for First Deputy PM and Minister of European Affairs is expected by the end of December.
